Day 1 – Jacksonville, FL

First let’s talk about gas prices.  South Carolina, gotta love ya!  Man, $1.69 for Premium!  My car was happy and my pocket was even happier!

I left Raleigh at 6:00am and arrived in Jacksonville, Fl around 2pm.  The weather is a bit better than what I left in Raleigh and probably a little chillier than what most Floridians would like.

I was able to put my feet in the Atlantic Ocean and then I was on my way.  I hit the highway again and moved west along I-10.  After logging around 900 total miles of driving I decided to find somewhere to get some sleep.  I stopped when I saw the building below.  Roll Tide!!!

Going on the cheap, I decided to pick a Motel 6 in Motel 6 on the out skirts of Mobile, AL.  This place was so scuzzy, dirty, and just plain icky, that I kept imaging that I was seeing bed bugs.  I found two small black dried up particles that I could not identify…one on the bed and one on the bathroom sink.  I flushed both of them, but for about $50 per night and allowing me to pay in cash (no deposit).  I just wanted somewhere to catch some sleep so that I could tackle another day of driving…

I slept ON the bed…with my clothes on…and I threw away everything I had on in the morning.  I had some flip flops so I didn’t touch anything with my skin.  I also did not place my bags on the bed…floor…nor did I leave it un-zipped.

Don’t drop your tooth brush here…or drink the water…or wash your face.  You get the picture.

No comments necessary.  Note to self:  Spend a bit more money next stop and stay somewhere better.  This place is bad enough that I may consider sending a letter to Motel 6 after my vacation.  End of my first day.
